The aim of this study was to study the effects of oregano oil on performance and methane production of sheep. Twenty healthy sheep [Northeast fineaool sheep×Merino, average weight was(32.16±4.02) kg] were randomly divided into 4 groups. Sheep in different groups were fed basal diets supplemented with 0, 0.015%, 0.030% and 0.045% oregano oil, respectively. The experiment lasted for 70 days, including 10 days acclimation and 60 days experimentation. The growth performance, blood biochemical indicators and methane production of the sheep were measured. The results showed that: ① compared with control group, adding 0.015% oregano oil significantly increased dry matter intake, average daily gain and feed conversion efficiency(P<0.05);② There were no significant differences on blood biochemical indicators and methane production(P>0.05). In conclusion, methane production of sheep was not affected by oregano oil, however, adding 0.015% oregano oil could boost the growth.
