摘　　要：乔伊斯的《一场悲剧》和契诃夫的《套中人》都勾画了其同胞“精神瘫痪”或“国民劣根性”的精神状况。从历史语境、人物刻画、作者经历和叙事技巧等方面看,这两篇作品中的主人公达菲先生与别里科夫存在惊人的相似,他们都是令人窒息的社会环境中的悲剧人物和牺牲品。两篇小说都承载着文明与欲望、帝国和殖民地、现代和传统、新老一代之间的较量与冲撞。Joyce's A Painful Case and Chekhov's The Sleeved Person both depict their compatriots'mental state of"mental paralysis"or"national bad habits".In terms of historical context,characterization,author experience and narrative technique,Mr.Duffy and Mr.Berikov,heroes in the two works,are strikingly similar.Both of them are tragic figures and victims in the suffocating social environment.Both novels are loaded with the struggles and collisions between civilization and desire,empire and colony,modernity and tradition,new and old generation.
