In the middle and late period of the Anti-Japanese War,in order to cope with the increasingly serious inflation, the National Government of China decided to allocate 200 million US dollars from the loan from the US to buy gold for sale to the people in the rear to recover excessively issued legal currency. However, due to the critical situation of the war,the black market price of the US dollar and gold increased significantly. The government had to raise the price of gold several times, however the information of gold price increase was leaked in advance.Bank staff and wealthy businessmen in Chongqing and other places took the opportunity to buy gold at low prices and profit through arbitrage. When the news broke, the whole country and the United States were stunned with anger. As a result,Chiang Kai-shek ordered an investigation, but the case did not go anywhere.Overwhelming facts suggested that the leak of gold price increase was not an ordinary fraud case,It involved a large number of people, and many of them were high ranking government officials. At the same time, this fraud case also had the characteristics of collusion between government and business, organized crime, etc. This showed that corruption had become systemized in the KMT government, which ultimately was an important reason that led to the loss of the subsequent civil war.
