坏女人、妓女与新女性:《太阳照样升起》中的女主人公形象考辨

摘　　要：自埃德蒙·威尔逊以降,学术界长期将海明威作品中的女性人物形象划分为“好女人”与“坏女人”两种类型。《太阳照样升起》中的勃莱特·阿什莉则一直被当作“坏女人”的典型。以文本细读和勃莱特的学术批评史为基础,通过对勃莱特的“坏女人”标签做出重新考察,我们发现将其视为“坏女人”的理由并不充分,同时一些批评家对卡洛斯·贝克也存有误解。在此基础上,重估勃莱特“坏女人”的标签,辨析其“妓女”与“新女性”等“标签”,结果是不能简单地将其视为“坏女人”,也不能将其视为一个完全的“妓女”和“新女性”。作为一个具有时代特征的人物形象,勃莱特只是一个介于妓女与新女性之间的过渡性人物。Since Edmund Wilson,female characters in Hemingway's works have been classified into the types of“goddesses”and“bitches”.Brett Ashley,in The Sun Also Rises,has long been considered as a typical“bitch”.Based on close reading of the novel and the critical history of the heroine Brett,the paper does a reexamination of her label of“bitch”,opines that Brett is not a“bitch”as claimed.Grounded on this effort,the paper further deliberates on Brett s labels of“bitch”,“prostitute”and“new woman”,and argues that it is reductive to tab her as each of them.A literary character with typical feature of the time,Brett is in fact characterized as a transitional figure between a prostitute and a new woman.
