There is complex thought of complementarity between Confucianism and Taoism in Qian Chengzhi’s Explanations of Words in Qu Yuan’s Ci.On the one hand,Explanations of Words in Qu Yuan’s Ci is full of the Confucian spirit of assisting emperor Yao and Shun and rejuvenating the Ming dynasty. This Confucian spirit is first manifested in the praise of Qu Yuan’s“ideal of good government”.In this way Qian Chengzhi placed his self-expectation of the political ideal of rejuvenating the Ming dynasty.Confucianism is also manifested in the promotion of Quyuan’s“feelings of home and country”,which contains a strong sense of“territorial consciousness”,a keen sense of“governing consciousness”and a deep sense of“concern about the country national”.On the other hand, the Taoist thought in Explanations of Words in Qu Yuan’s Ci is manifested in its ideology of“use by hiding”and its momentum of following the concept of“time”.This thought of complementarity between Confucianism and Taoism in Qian Chengzhi’s Explanations of Words in Qu Yuan’s Ci is the external expression in literary creation of Qian Chengzhi’s complex psychological structure of literati in his later years,in which Confucianism and Taoism are mutually exclusive and complementary to each other. It is also the euphemistic expression of the feelings and mentality of the adherents in early Qing Dynasty which are difficult to express and are in the process of constant change.
