摘　　要：The Painted Veil is a novel written by W.Somerset Maugham,first published in 1925.Eighty-one years later,a homonymic movie of The Painted Veil was put on screen.Though based on the original story line,the movie still got a lot of adaptions.This article compares the movie with the novel from two perspectives:the background setting and the plot and theme.
