Objective To observe the characteristics of the height change of cervical intervertebral space in adolescents with Adolescent Neck Pain(ANP), and to explore its causes. Methods 59 adolescent patients with ANP were selected as the Neck Pain Group, and 17 healthy adolescents were recruited as the control group. Both groups had taken lateral X-ray films. Intervertebral space height in cervical spines C2-C3, C3-C4, C4-C5, C5-C6 and C6-C7 between the two groups were compared respectively. Results The measurement values of intervertebral space height in C2-C3, C3-C4 and C4-C5 in the Neck Pain Group was lower than those in the control group(P<0.05), and the measurement values of intervertebral space height in C5-C6 and C6-C7 had no statistically significant differences between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusion The intervertebral space heights in C2-C3, C3-C4 and C4-C5 of patients with ANP were lower than those in healthy adolescents. The reasons could be the abnormally increasing disc load due to weakened muscles around cervical spine, and straightened cervical spine.
