During the time of Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, where modern-day Guangzhou is was the capital of Southern Han, Xingwang Fu. Since 1995, at the palace site of Nanyue Kingdom, ruins of palatial halls, ponds and courtyards of Southern Han have been excavated, along with a large number of ceramics dating back to the era from late Tang Dynasty to Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms. On some of the unearthed ceramics, there are incised contents referring to the palace of Southern Han, offices of the Inner Court, officials, and the emperor’s favorite courtiers, such as Zhang Yao Bureau( 掌要局), Yao( 要), Ru( 女), Lu( 卢), Chang( 昌) and Guan( 官). Among these ceramics, there are olive green porcelain made in Yue Yao in Five Dynasties, white porcelain made in Ding Yao and Jingdezhen Yao, and locally produced celadon. All the ceramics are significant study materials for tracing the sources of court porcelain of Southern Han and examining the relation between Southern Han and the Central Plains, and its nearby powers like Wu-Yue, Southern Tang and Min.
