Based on ERP technology and translation recognition tasks, the present study investigates the cognitive neurological mechanism of bilingual lexical representation for Chinese learners of English. The results show that:1)compared with Chinese-English non-translation pairs, the Chinese-English translation equivalents elicit a smaller P200 and a larger P400;2)compared with English-Chinese non-translation pairs, the English-Chinese translation equivalents elicit a smaller P200 and a smaller N300;3)compared with backward translation(English-Chinese),forward translation(Chinese-English)elicits a larger amplitude and a longer latency in terms of P400.Therefore,we conclude that:1)there exist translation priming effects for both forward translation direction and backward translation direction, and that a corresponding translation prime asymmetry is observed between the two translation directions;2)a smaller orthographic(P200)and a larger semantic(P400)connections are established from Chinese(L1)to English(L2),and a smaller orthographic(P200)and form-semantic interface(N300)connections are established from English(L2)to Chinese(L1)for Chinese learners of English;3)a qualitative difference exists in representing L1 and L2 words in Chinese-English bilingual mental lexicon. This study provides evidence for the cognitive neurological mechanism of bilingual lexical representation for Chinese learners of English.
