摘　　要：North and Southis one of Elizabeth Gaskell’s greatest novels.As a British female writer,Mrs.Gaskell has vividly depicted the life experience of the female protagonist Margaret Hale,a young lady who grows up in a picturesque southern town named Helstone,and has to move to a northern industrial city called Milton.The description of her experience vividly describes the great social,environmental and economic changes that have taken place in Britain during the Industrial Revoluti on.North and South will be interpreted from a perspective of eco-feminism in the following two aspects:the impact of the Industrial Revolutionon environment and women status in patriarchal society.An eco-feminist interpretation of the novel can help to eliminate gender discrimination,construct ecological civilization as well as build a harmonious society.
