Skin injury is one of the common diseases in clinic, which is mainly caused by acute trauma such as laceration, cut and contusion.Wound healing after skin injury is initiated immediately after trauma by releasing a variety of growth factors such as fibroblast growth factor 2(FGF2 or bFGF),platelet-derived growth factor(PDGF)and transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β).Some studies have shown that FGF2 may promote wound healing by promoting angiogenesis and granulation, reducing scar formation and accelerating epithelialization. However, because of the short half-life and the lower stabilization that susceptible to enzymatic and skin microenvironment in vivo,it only remains in the wound for a short time, and its ability to promote wound healing is also weakened. Therefore,it is particularly important to maintain the stability of FGF2 during wound healing. This paper reviews the molecular structure and function of FGF2,signaling pathway of activation of FGF2 receptor, action mechanism of FGF2 in would healing as well as application of FGF2 in plastic surgery.
