摘　　要：Both the CPC and its leaders have attached much importance to history.This was an especially distinctive trait in Mao Zedong.President Xi Jinping carries on this tradition,and develops it in the new historical period.The 22nd International Congress of Historical Science was opened in Jinan in August 2015,to which President Xi Jinping wrote a congratulatory letter.It was a very unusual event in the history of the CPC.By referring to the inseparable connection between history and reality,President Xi in this letter fully affirms the important role,academic status and special function of historical research,thinks highly of the deep-rooted tradition and great achievements of the study of history in China,puts forward the correct attitude and scientific method for history and the responsibilities and missions of historians,points out that“China in history is an important angle to observe China at present,”clarifies the underlying role of the knowledge of history in seeing through realities,and highlights the outstanding utility of historical wisdom for practices in reality.This congratulatory letter is a valuable document for the study of President Xi Jinping’s important discourse upon history,and should be treated together with his other discourses,so that one can fully and systematically grasp his standpoint and insight about history.
