摘 要:《建筑:3000年建造与工程设计史》是近年来西方建筑工程史研究的重要著作。该书作者阿迪斯毕业于工程学专业并长期从事工程设计和咨询,文章首先分析了阿迪斯在此教育和实践背景下如何研究建造与工程设计史,并从工程史研究的六个重要方面解析该书的核心内容;随后,笔者以"悬链线"为例,详述阿迪斯对"科学原理如何应用于工程设计"这一工程史研究核心问题的分析。在此基础上,笔者结合高等数学和结构力学知识,揭示了阿迪斯分析悬链线问题的基本学理;最后,文章讨论了建筑工程史、建筑技术史和建造史的区别与联系,并以此揭示阿迪斯的建筑工程史对中国现代建筑技术史研究的启示。Building:3000 Years of Design Engineering and Construction is an important work on the research of the history of Western architectural engineering in recent years.The author Bill Addis,who graduated from Cambridge with a degree in engineering,has extensive experience in the field of engineering design and consultation.This paper analyzes how Addis studies the history of design engineering and construction with this educational and practical background,and examines the core of the book from six essential aspects of researching engineering history.Subsequently,taking "catenary" as an example,it elaborates on Addis’ s analysis of the core issue of engineering history,which is how scientific principle is applied to engineering design.On this basis,by means of advanced mathematics and structural mechanics,it reveals what’s behind Addis’ s analysis.At last,the paper discusses the differences and connections among the history of architectural engineering,history of architectural technology and history of construction,in an attempt to discover the inspiration of Addis’ s research on the history of modern Chinese architectural technology.
