摘　　要：埃德温·摩根作为苏格兰的民族诗人,从20世纪50年代起就通过自己的作品塑造了当代苏格兰文学传统,让苏格兰文学和民族得到广泛的关注。他的早期诗歌创作体现出对现代性的追寻、对苏格兰民族意识的呈现和对古英语文学传统的继承与发展,这些特点成为摩根诗歌创作中最具个人风格的元素,从而奠定了他诗歌创作的基调。摩根早期诗歌创作的这三个特点得到评论界和后辈诗人的充分认可,不仅成为摩根个人的诗歌创作特色,也成为影响当代苏格兰诗歌创作的核心元素,对当代苏格兰诗歌的发展具有持续而深远的影响。As the first Scots Makar in the 20th century,Edwin Morgan built a new tradition for Scottish poetry through his poetical works from the 1950 s.In the early stage of his career,Morgan adopted experimental techniques to express his enthusiasm for modernity.Incorporating modernism with Scottish nationalism,he discussed vital social issues and called for Scottish people’s national consciousness in his writings.Besides,Morgan transformed his understanding of Old English classic Beowulf into the construction of new Scottish poetry.These characteristics of his early poetry became essence of his poetic style and subverted the tradition of Scottish poetry.Morgan’s focus on modernity,Scottish national consciousness and Old English literature enabled him to become the spokesperson of contemporary Scotland and exerted great influence on fellow Scottish poets.
