The gold braceteats that imitatd Byzantine coins and other types of coins unearthed along the Silk Road are important evidence for studying the cultural and economic interactions between the East and West.Meanwhile, the discovery of these gold plaques also sheds great insights into social customs in the Turpan basin during the Medieval period and their role played shaping of the Silk Road.Based on the iconography and artifact styles, this paper argues that their chronological changes represented the influences from the early Byzantine empire in different periods.More importantly, their styles demonstrated the wide variety of coins that had been used along the Silk Road during the early periods of the Medieval period. Therefore, braceteats are the direct evidence of coinage used in the Silk Road.In addition, they also witnessed the spread and assimilation of culture between the East and West.
