Fully-biobased poly(lactic acid)/thermoplastic starch(PLA/TPS) biodegradable material with both high performance of PLA and low cost of starch is a new biodegradable polymer system which has been receiving significant attention over the past few years.Due to the strong hydrophilicity of starch,it is difficult for starch to be compatible with PLA matrix, which results in poor interfacial adhesion and deterioration of the performances of PLA/TPS blends. The research focus of PLA/TPS blends is to improve the mechanical properties of blends by improving the interfacial compatibility of components. In this review, the preparation and properties of poly(lactic acid)/thermoplastic starch blends(PLA/TPS) were outlined. The mechanical properties of PLA/TPS binary blends were broadly introduced. The effects of plasticizers and inorganic particles on the structure and properties of PLA/TPS blends were summarized. In addition, the research progress regarding PLA/TPS multi-components blends compatibilized by graft(block) copolymer, small molecule compounds were described in detail.High performance PLA/TPS biodegradable multi-component blend is a new biodegradable plastic with great development prospect.
