经验的“改造/重构”是教育的目的还是方法?--与刘彬博士商榷

摘　　要：本文回应刘彬博士于2019年第6期《现代大学教育》的发文“教育是经验的‘改造’还是‘重构’:重温《民主与教育》”。我们认为,该文章对杜威教育经验论的解读偏离了杜威建构该理论的初衷,忽视了杜威对教育实践问题的关照,以此为基础探讨其汉语表述有失偏颇。本文将引证杜威的《民主与教育》和《经验与教育》,分析杜威对教育根本目的的论述,明确“经验”在杜威原著中指的是“经验过程”,澄清“经验过程的改造/重构”不是教育的目的,而是教育的方法。在此基础上,我们重新探讨“ the reconstruction of experience”这一短语的译法。This article is a response to Dr.Liu Bin’s paper "Is Education the ’Gaizao’(Transformation) or ’Chonggou’(Recon’struction) of Experience?Reflections on Dewey’s Democracy and Education",published on this same journal Modern University Education,Issue 6,2019.We think Dr.Liu misinterpreted Dewey’s philosophy of education,and mistranslated into Chinese Dewey’s conception of "Education as Reconstruction of Experience" as well.Based on a close reading of Dewey’s educational philosophy presented in Democracy and Education(1916) and Experience and Education(1938),this study found that Dewey’s a experience"actually referred to the "process",not the "product",of experiential learning,and "reconstruction of experience" was regarded as the"means",not the "end",of education.In this article,we also discuss the correct Chinese translation of Dewey’s "reconstruction of experience".
