Jonathan Swift, the great writer of the 18 th-century England, aimed to confront readers with the human and social vices in his masterpiece Gulliver’s Travels. He used satires to create double mirror images, namely the mirror image of actual performances of individuals in the fictional narratives, and the mirror image of concrete social phenomena in the satirized objects. In the meanwhile, satires have become the measures through which the writer aired his social criticisms, and readers came to appreciate the interactive relationships between self, other, and society in the pleasure of reading. Swift integrated the individual narrative with the subjectivity into the social phenomena or consensus with the publicness, and created the social imagination in the literary mirror image, which ushered in the most remarkable work of satires.
