摘　　要：1850年,长期活跃于广东的美国知名茶商吉迪恩·奈发表《茶与茶贸易》一书,阐述其对中国茶文化的理解和对中美、中英茶贸易的深刻分析。吉迪恩高度评价中国茶叶具备的医学功效与经济价值。他建议美国政府取消对中国茶叶的进口税,并指出“假茶”盛行造成的破坏性影响,甚至谴责英国向中国进行的鸦片走私活动。该书虽篇幅不大,却能反映出19世纪外国人眼中的中国茶文化,又保存了许多难得的茶叶贸易的经济数据,具有重要的研究价值。In 1850,Gideon Nye,a famous American tea merchant who lived in Guangdong for a long time,published Tea and Tea Trade,which elaborated on his understanding of Chinese tea culture and profound analysis of Sino-US and Sino-British tea trade.Gideon spoke highly of the medical and economic benefits of Chinese tea.He suggested that the US government abolish the import tax on Chinese tea,pointed out the destructive influence caused by the prevalence of"fake tea",and condemned Britain’s opium smuggling to China.Although the bookwasshort in length,it reflected the Chinese tea culture in the eyes of foreigners in the 19th century,and it also preserved many rare economic data of tea trade,which was of important research value.
