To explore the controlling mechanism and the climatic and environmental significance of variations of heavy metals in speleothems, atmospheric deposition samples were collected monthly at the Shihua Cave in Beijing from November 2012 to October 2013.Water-soluble contents of eight heavy metals(Ti,Cr,Co,Ni,Cu,Zn,Cd and Pb)in these atmospheric deposition samples were determined with an ICP-MS.The results showed that water-soluble contents of all heavy metals in the atmospheric deposition samples were relatively high, and enrichment factors of heavy metals were generally high while their enrichments were varied, and the seasonal deposition flux trends of heavy metals were similar to their seasonal enrichment factor trends. The water-soluble heavy metals in atmospheric depositions at the Shihua Cave might be affected jointly by various anthropogenic sources. The deposition fluxes of most heavy metals at the Shihua Cave were higher than those at remote areas, especially, the deposition flux of Zn,which was comparable to those obtained in Beijing urban areas and slightly less than those obtained at heavily industrialized cities, such as Bursa and Tangshan, indicating that the atmospheric Zn pollution at the Shihua Cave was relatively serious.
