摘 要:奥登的中国之行不是一次单纯的任务写作之旅,而是其诗艺发展过程中的一起标志性事件,承载着他在自己的左派政治信仰遭遇严重困境之际,试图借此验证政治书写之艺术效度、反思作家之本真使命的重要动机。在中国强大文化异质性的冲击下,奥登的浪漫主义政治妄念转向幻灭,开始其疏离政治书写、进而以个人存在体验的内省式表达关切人类社会和历史的尝试。在《战地行纪》,特别是其中的《在战时》组诗中,奥登借助巧妙的"去中国化"策略和对里尔克"赞颂诗学"的招魂,首次将他的"非政治化"艺术人格理念付诸系统的诗歌表达,从而不仅对"动乱时代下诗人何为"这一重大命题做出全新的回应,而且也发出其中后期诗歌转型的第一声。W.H.Auden’s journey in China is not merely a commissioned task for a travel book,but a landmark event of his poetic evolution,at the critical time when his earlier leftist beliefs were gravely challenged and he felt obliged to testify the validity of political writing and search for the authentic mission of a poet.During his fatal encounter with the alterity of Chinese culture,Auden’s romantic political illusion rapidly evaporated,which consequently resulted in his abandoning political writing and adopting personal existential introspection as a new way of writing humanity and history.In Journey to a War,its"In Time of War"section in particular,Auden,with his artful strategy of"desinicization"and invocation of Rilke’s"praise poetics",put his newly developed"apolitical"artistic persona into its first full expression,which marked not only his consciously response toward such a critical proposition as"what are poets for in a time of upheaval?"but also his first endeavor for a poetic transformation in his later poetry.
