摘 要:关于催眠术在近代中国的传播情况,目前缺少足够的研究。自1839年起,相关概念开始出现在传教士在华创办的英文报刊上,成为英语读者理解中国灵巫活动的中介。甲午之后,催眠术由日本加速涌入,留日学生、流亡人士成为主要的传播群体,"催眠术"这一词汇也从"传镊气""人电"等对译词中逐渐胜出,令渴望疗救国民、实现革命、证明灵魂存在的人们产生了不小的期待,也令当局者警觉。暗杀团体对催眠术的研习尤其醒目,但实际效果并不理想。以或温和、或激进的方式,催眠术参与了近代精英对"心"之力的营构,成为时代动能的汇聚点之一,投射了19世纪对精神力量的普遍兴趣。The spread of hypnotism in modern China has yet been sufficiently studied. To make up for this inadequacy, this paper made in-depth research on this subject and discovered that ever since 1839, related concepts had begun to appear in China, in the English periodicals published by foreign missionaries. These periodicals became the source for English readers to learn about Chinese paranormal activities. After the Sino-Japanese War, the hypnotism spreading process accelerated mainly by Chinese students who had studied in Japan and people who were in exile. The term and idea of Cui mian shu(hypnotism) gradually stood out from other concepts such as Chuan nie qi and Ren dian. The emergence of hypnotism brought about a series of reactions in China, gave hope to those who were desperate to save the nation, fulfill the ideology of the revolution, and prove the existence of the soul. The study of hypnotism by assassination groups was particularly striking that even though the results were not ideal, they alerted the authorities altogether with other activities related to hypnotism. Modest or radical, hypnotism was part of the foundation on which modern elite built their "power of heart." It became one of the focal points of the society’s kinetic energy of the time, when lots of people held the belief in saving all beings with spiritual strength in semi-colonial China in the 19 th century.
