摘　　要：本文依据殷墟的考古材料,从殷墟各个时期的墓葬(人口)数量、居址的数量与规模、青铜器铸造业、都邑规模等四个方面综合考察了殷墟第四期的文化面貌,不仅看不出殷墟第四期文化面貌的衰败景象,反而看到的是各方面皆达到了前所未有的高峰,且是一个非常繁荣的大都会。This paper is a study of the cultural development during the PhaseⅣat Yinxu,last Shang capital,on the basis of the analysis of archaeological materials including the amount of burials from different phases(and estimates of population size),the amount and scale of residential buildings,bronze casting industry,and the extent of urban settlement.It argues that there is no indication of the decline in so&al complexity during the Phase IV;instead,the development at Yinxu reached its unprecedented apex in all aspects,and the capital was a flourishing metropoEs then.
