Meng Chih, the former president of China Institute in America,a student leader in the May 4th Movement and one of earliest Chinese exchange students who studied in the United States, made outstanding contributions to Sino-US exchanges from the 1920s to the 1960s.Unfortunately,such a vital cultural messenger has long been forgotten by the history.Except occasionally recorded in diaries, essays, memoirs and letters by a few celebrities such as Hu Shi,he almost entirely faded away from academic research.According to Meng Chih's English memoirs published by China Institute in America, some relevant historical materials preserved in China Institute, the Columbia University and other places,in combination with news reports at that time, this paper attempts to reveal his important role in the history of the Republic of China and the bridging role of folk culture organizations in bilateral relations.
