慕“名”而来的经济效应存在吗?——基于合成控制法对县市更名经济效果的分析

摘　　要：近年来,地名蕴含的信息及其可能产生的经济影响引起了越来越多的关注。文章关注地名这一无形资产对经济发展的作用,研究了县市更名是否存在经济效应。首先从理论角度分析了更名的经济效应及其存在异质性的原因,在此基础上,以1998—2010年更名的县市为样本,以合成控制法为工具,检验并比较了县市更名经济效果的差异,同时采用安慰剂检验法、迭代法、熵平衡-DID法和更换样本法进行了有效性和稳健性检验。结果显示,县市更名的经济效果具有异质性,对资源禀赋和要素条件较好的县市而言,更名带来了更快速的经济增长;对于资源禀赋和要素条件较差的县市,更名反而阻碍了经济发展。文章丰富了无形资产影响经济发展的研究,同时也为地区更名决策提供了参考依据。In recent years,more and more attentions have been paid to the information contained in a name and its possible economic impact.This paper focused on the role of geographical names,an intangible asset on economic development,and studied the possibility of any economic effect of renaming counties and cities.Firstly,this paper explained the economic effects of renaming and the reasons for its heterogeneity from a theoretical point of view,and then took the renamed counties and cities from 1998 to 2010 as a sample,applied the synthetic control method to estimate each renamed county and city,and made an effectiveness and robustness test by using Placebo Test,Iterative Method,EB-DID and Sample Replacement.The results show that the economic effects of renaming counties and cities are heterogeneous.For counties and cities with better resources endowment and factor conditions,renaming brings faster economic growth,while for those lowly resourced and factored,renaming hinders economic development.The authors believe that this can serve the purpose of enhancing the understanding of the influence of intangible assets on regional economic development.
