摘  要:在跨文化交际研究和修辞学理论建构方面,国内外都出现过回避“跨文化交际”或“修辞”字眼的情况,而实际研究内容恰恰关涉跨文化交际或修辞学理论建构。这一情形对于推进当下研究造成一定不便。美国跨文化交际理论家Pearce在阐述“意义协调构筑论”时,追溯古希腊“消除分歧最好是动用睿智而非锐器”,正是典型的跨文化交际研究修辞视角。存在“分歧”就可能产生“论战”,西方修辞的“睿智非锐器”与中国古人的“不战而屈兵”,具有异曲同工之妙。因此,在文化多元化时代的跨文化言语交际中,应充分挖掘比较修辞的核心本质,从而为国家利益及国际协调发挥出比较修辞功效。Theory building in the fields of intercultural communication and rhetoric has found some researchers who have made relevant and pertinent studies on just these two fields and yet deliberately avoided these two terms.This case has put other researchers in an inconvenient position to fully appreciate their opinions to move forward.The great American intercultural communication theorist W.Barnett Pearce,expounding his theory of the coordinated management of meaning(CMM),has traced its root to the ancient Greek rhetoric of“it is better to resolve differences through sharpened wits rather than sharpened weapons,”a typically rhetorical perspective on intercultural communication studies.Differences entailing argumentation and arguments are reminiscent of word power and warfare.The western rhetorical perspective shares both similarities and differences with“winning the enemy without armed fighting”in the ancient Chinese classic The Art of War.Therefore,it is imperative to explore the core cannon of comparative rhetoric in our era of economic globalization and cultural pluralism for our national interests and for the construction of humankind with a shared future with the function of comparative rhetoric brought into full play.
