Objective To identify and study related characteristics of a suspected small colony mutant of Staphylococcus epidermidis(SCVs)isolated from clinical specimens to provide evidence for the diagnosis and treatment of SCVs infection. Methods A suspected Staphylococcus epidermidis SCVs was isolated and cultured from clinical patient specimens. The characteristics were analyzed by colony morphology, growth curve, biochemical identification, drug sensitivity test,16S rRNA gene polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and sequencing identification, chemical limited medium compensation experiment. Results The SCVs were identified as Staphylococcus epidermidis through 16S rRNA gene sequencing.Compared with the wild strain, the strain grew slowly on blood plates and had small colonies;it grew slowly in liquid culture.Thymine, thiamine hydrochloride, heme, menaquinone and CO2 environment all had a compensatory effect. Conclusion A strain of Staphylococcus epidermidis SCVs has been successfully isolated and identified, which can provide biological materials for further research on Staphylococcus epidermidis SCVs-related diseases.
