Vinyltrimethoxysilane(VTMO)containing dowble bond was chosen as small olefin and reacted with solution-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber(SSBR)through metathesis. The influence of VTMO amount on molecular weight, interaction with silica and mechanical properties of modified SSBR was investigated. The results showed lower molecular weight of modified SSBR,lower minimum torque, higher maximum torque, higher crosslink density and higher cure rate indicated better processability. The interaction between silica and modified SSBR was improved due to the introduction of siloxane group onto SSBR,consequently higher bound rubber content, lower Payne effect and better silica dispersion.Compared with unmodified SSBR,when the mole ratio of double bond in VTMO with SSBR was 0.1%,the molecular weight of modified SSBR decreased by 21%,but its tensile strength and elongation at break increased by 32%and 25%,respectively,and dynamic loss factor(tanδ)at 60℃decreased by 16%,indicating lower rolling resistance for green tire.
