摘　　要：作为文学家生存和创作的基础,经济元素渗透在作家的个人生活、创作动机、价值观念、创作方式、作品内容和作品传播接受中。福斯特《霍华兹庄园》被称为一部“英国社会状况”小说。从资本主义发展史看,19世纪末20世纪初正是英国金融资本主义发展时期。小说以英国金融经济中心伦敦为背景,描绘了中产阶级内部各阶层的金融经济活动,以及金融经济伦理思想。小说深层透视了英国现代化进程中城市与乡村、金钱和文化、传统与进步的矛盾话语,作者试图通过霍华兹庄园这一房地产符号来实现现代化进程中的国家之间、阶级之间的连接,实现福斯特式的田园救赎。As the basis of writer’s existence and creation,economical elements has interspersed in the writer’s personal life,writing motives,values,ways of writing,writing content and works reception.E.M.Forster’s Howards End is regarded as a novel of social conditions.It depicted the great economical change in London in the early 1920s,and economic activities of the middle class and economic morality and reflected the opposition between country and city,money and culture,tradition and progress in the progression of modernization,which shows the author’s worries about the economic developments’on the culture and national identity.The author wanted to connect the different nations and classes through the symbolic pastoral image of Howards End.
