Clarification of the similarity law of internal waves and its quantified relation of experimental simulation is a precondition for practical application of reduced scale experimental research on internal waves and for solution of the science problem and engineering problem related to internal waves in the ocean.According to the similarity condition of fluid mechanics, similarity theory of internal waves is analyzed and the effects of the structure and the density difference of the stratified fluids on the character of internal waves are investigated using the predicting model of internal waves. It is clarified that the necessary condition of similarity of internal waves is similarity of the structures of the stratified fluids. The relationship between the similarity law of internal waves and that of surface waves is also analyzed. The density difference of the stratified fluids in the laboratory is greater than that of the marine thermocline, and the similarity laws of internal waves and surface waves cannot be satisfied at the same time,so the reduced scale experimental results should be converted respectively according to the similarity laws of internal waves and surface waves.
