Roman began to issue coins at the end of 4th century BC,whose form and kind were imitated from Greek Monetary. But Roman did well enough in the adjustment and innovation for the monetary system based on their own need. As for monetary system,Romans tried to sustain the frame of monetary centered on the bronze coin As,and even gave name to the silver coin-denarius-based on its conversion value with As. On pattern of coins,Roman imitated the device of Greek coins, but chose deities who were either Roman natives or connecting with the Romans, and further, at the end the Republic,Roman imperators absorbed the pattern of rulers’ images on coins from the Hellenistic world, and reorganized the concept of kingship in Roman society. At last, the Republic gave individual marks of denominations on the obverse and reverse of coins, which is an important innovation along the monetary history.
