Objective To explore the relationship between different urbanization levels and residents’health status in Guizhou Province,so as to provide basis for the design of relevant health policies in the process of urbanization. Methods Based on the provincial panel data from 2000 to 2017,the relationship between urbanization and residents’health status was analyzed by Grossman health production theory model. Results Analysis showed that for every 1%increase in urbanization rate, life expectancy per capita increased by 0.021 years, neonatal mortality decreased by 1.018%,and maternal mortality decreased by 0.566%.The rapid urbanization of economic development promoted the health status of residents. Conclusion The impact of urbanization on the health status of residents is multifaceted. It mainly promotes the increase of employment opportunities, income levels and medical and health resources invested. Therefore, the promotion of urbanization can improve the health status of residents, but the development imbalance should be narrowed continually between relatively backward and more developed areas to bring about an overall improvement in the health status of residents in Guizhou Province.
