摘　　要：不同于许多美国少数族裔作家,菲利普·罗斯从白人盎格鲁·萨克逊新教价值观的立场展现少数族裔与主流社会之间的张力和矛盾,虽然其作品中显现出的犹太性不容置疑,但其中的美国性则应被视为主导立场。作为罗斯《美国三部曲》之一的《美国牧歌》反映了他鲜明的白人主流文化价值观,特别是个人主义信仰。重读这部作品有助于我们了解罗斯特立独行的政治立场和文化取向,同时也有助于我们对20世纪60年代到21世纪以来美国政治文化变迁有一个更全面的了解。Different from many other American ethnic minority writers,Philip Roth usually portrayed the tension and conflicts between ethnic groups and the mainstream society based on White Anglo-Saxon Protestant(WASP)values.Though there is no doubt that his works are well known for his Jewishness,the Americanness illustrated in them should be considered as the author’s dominant stance.His inclination to WASP values,especially his faith in individualism,is better manifested in American Pastoral of his American Trilogy.Revisiting the novel can help us understand Roth’s maverick political stance and cultural orientation.It also stays meaningful in enabling us to better understand the changes in American politics and culture since 1960 s to present day.
