华蘅芳与近代西学翻译

摘　　要：华蘅芳是近代杰出的科技翻译家,于1867年开始从事西学翻译并与徐寿一起创办翻译馆,使之成为近代中国最大的西学翻译中心。自是时起,以迄1900年,华蘅芳译介西书19部,是翻译馆译书最多的华人翻译家之一。此外,他还对译书原则和术语翻译提出了自己的见解。他覃心译述30余年,将当时国人未曾闻见的近代数学、地质学、矿物学、军事学、气象学等西学知识引入中国,为中国早期现代化做出了重要贡献。Hua Hengfang, an outstanding translator of science and technology in modern China, began translation of Western learning in 1867 and together with Xu Shou, set up the Translation Department of Jiangnan Arsenal which later became the biggest translation center of Western learning in modern China. Hua Hengfang, translated 19 Western books by 1900 and was then one of the most prolific Chinese translators. In addition, he presented his views on the principles of translating books and terms. He devoted himself into translation for over 30 years and introduced into China Western knowledge of modern math, geology, mineralogy, military science and meteorology, thus making great contributions to China’s early modernization.
