摘 要:伯特霍尔德·劳弗在1901-1904年主持开展了“雅各布·希夫中国远征项目”(The Jacob Schiff China Expedition),在诸多运回美国的物件中包括了502卷蜡筒录制的中国声音。百多年后这批录音返回中国,并开始了中美合作的研究。尽管这一研究刚刚起步,但这批被认为是“中国最初录音”的早期的蜡筒,对中国音乐史、音乐人类学、社会学、录音技术,以及西方人类学的中国研究所具有的深远意义,日渐清晰。更重要的是,如何让作为历史档案的“蜡筒录音”真正被赋活、具备其自身的生命力,进而让“物”在其与人的互动中(无论是研究还是消费)获得本体论意义上的生长,是每一个档案实践者要思考的问题。Bertold Laufer led the Jacob H.Schiff Chinese Expedition from 1901 to 1904.Among the many objects brought to the United States,there were 502 wax cylinders made across China.Those recordings were returned to China and a collaborative research project between the United States and China began recently.Although this research project has just started,it is becoming clear that these wax cylinders,considered the"first recordings of China",have profound implications for Chinese music history,musical anthropology,sociology,recording technology,and the study of China in Western anthropology.More importantly,how to make the historical archives truly come to life,and how the"objects"can grow ontologically in their interaction with people(whether for research or consumption),are questions for every archive practitioner to consider.
