Recently, there have been fluctuations in the operation of the electric desalting system of the distillation unit. In order to explore the causes of the fluctuations in the electric desalting system, the two aspects of the operating conditions of the electric desalting tank and the nature of the crude oil are investigated, combined with the analysis of the crude oil mixing compatibility theory, the following conclusions are obtained. When two kinds of crude oil with different properties are mixed, there is the possibility of incompatibility, asphaltene precipitation, increase the degree of emulsification of crude oil, and cause fluctuations in the operation of electric desalting system. The lower the blending ratio of heavy crude oil is, the more obvious the incompatibility is. With the increase of blending ratio of heavy crude oil, the incompatibility of crude oil is gradually alleviated. In the case of incompatibility in processing mixed crude oil, the degree of over emulsification of crude oil can be reduced by reducing the mixing strength, so as to stabilize the production. When processing mixed crude oil, it is better to mix oil with similar properties. If the properties of mixed oil are quite different, the mixing proportion of heavy oil can be appropriately increased to reduce the possibility of incompatibility and ensure the smooth operation of the unit.
