摘　　要：作为共和国翻译出版史上的一个重要机构,上海编译所至今较少为学界所知。本文基于大量档案文献,对其历史进行了考掘和梳理。其创办背景和原因,与文艺批判、出版整肃、稿酬制度改革、翻译计划化、译者组织化、统战政策等因素有关。在人事、经济和政治制度方面,该所是宏观政策与具体现实折中调和的产物;就效果影响而言,编译所帮助了处境困难的职业译者,支持了特殊时期经典类、外事外联类和情报类著作的翻译。On the basis of large amounts of archives,this research aims to shed light on the history of Shanghai Translation Institute,an important yet lesser know n institution in the translation history of PRC. The institute w as established on the background of literary movements,book censorship,reform to author’s renumeration,planning of translation and translators,and policy tow ard intellectuals. Its personnel,economic and political systems w ere the result of a compromise betw een general guidelines and current situation. To some extent,it helped support the then impoverished free-lance translators,and sponsored the translation of classic literature and literary intelligence,and books for diplomatic and liaison purposes.
