Chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS) is a chronic disease with unknown etiology associated with immune, neuroinflammatory, infectious and psychiatric factors. It is characterized by prolonged(6 months) periods of extreme fatigue associated with multiple system symptoms including muscle and joint pain, headache, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, light sensitivity, posterect discomfort, and influenza-like symptoms. The diagnosis of CFS must exclude other diseases, and it is difficult because the cause of CFS is poorly understood and the disease lacks clear biomarkers. At present, many basic and clinical studies have revealed the specific manifestations of intestinal flora imbalance in CFS, as well as the deterministic role of intervention in intestinal microecology in relieving fatigue, sleep, attention disorder and other symptoms. This review reviews the research on the relationship between intestinal flora imbalance and CFS, summarizes the role of intestinal flora in the pathogenesis of CFS, and clarifies the relationship between the two, so as to deepen clinical workers′ understanding of CFS and facilitate early diagnosis and reasonable treatment.
