摘　　要：《19世纪美国的海洋帝国想象——詹姆斯·库柏的海洋书写研究》一书在对库柏的海洋小说进行文本细读的基础上,从文学与历史学、军事学等跨学科视阈出发,结合19世纪美国的历史文化语境,围绕库柏的海洋书写同美国的民族文学型构、国家意识、国家认同、帝国想象、海洋民族主义、海洋文化、海权建构以及帝国扩张之间的复杂关系展开全面深入的论述。总体上看,该著在4个方面体现出独到的学术价值和贡献:一是选题具有重要的开拓意义;二是紧紧聚焦海洋文化、海洋意识、海洋民族主义、海权建构和海洋历史书写等海洋人文社科研究中的核心问题,具有强烈的问题意识;三是以点带面,以库柏的海洋书写整体观照19世纪美国的海洋书写,既拓展了库柏研究,同时也扩展了美国海洋文学研究的维度;四是对于中国的"海洋强国战略"具有重要的现实启示意义。Situated in the historical and cultural context of the United States in the nineteenth century, based on a close reading of James Fenimore Cooper’s texts and combined with the cross-disciplinary perspectives of history, literature and military science, Prof. Bo Duan’s monograph Imagining Sea Power in 19 th Century American Literature: James Fenimore Cooper’s Sea Writing explores with clarity the intricate connections between Cooper’s sea writing and the shaping of American national literature, national consciousness, national identity, U.S. imperialist imagination, maritime nationalism, maritime culture, construction of sea power and expansion of empire. On the whole, the monograph demonstrates unique academic value and contributes to the academic community in four aspects: firstly, the topic under discussion is pioneering;secondly, the monograph is question-conscious, concentrating on such pivot issues in maritime humanities as maritime culture, maritime awareness, maritime nationalism, sea power construction, and maritime history writing, etc.;thirdly, the monograph uses Cooper’s sea writing to observe the American sea writing in the 19 th century as a whole, which expands the dimension and breadth of Cooper studies and American sea literature studies;fourthly, the monograph bears important practical implications for China’s Maritime Power Strategy.
