摘　　要：索尔·贝娄中期作品中的主人公大都生活在美国20世纪60年代、70年代消费文化盛行的大都市,现代消费文化使得原本的消费领域已经变为富有结构的社会领域,原本的单纯消费已经变成身份的有序编码;现代消费浪潮造成主人公们归属感的缺失、社会地位的恐慌和自我实现的渴望,这让他们重新建构自己的身份显得尤为突出;他们虽然依靠空间消费的群体感和品牌消费的认可感来获取社会的反馈和公认,进而在社会方方面面煞费苦心地找着自己的位置来确认个体身份,但这种自我身份的重塑是在一种被动的、模糊的、不清醒的状态下被物化成的,是很难得到真实确认,是需要重新审视和建构,而只有基于理性消费,重塑身份,他们才能得到渴望的幸福和向往的自由,才能正确地梳理好人和物质消费、人和社会、人和精神存在的种种关系,才能清楚自身的价值和生命的意义。The protagonists in Saul Bellow’s mid-term works were all living in the US big cities in the 1960s or 1970s when the consumption culture prevailed.The modern consumption culture made the original field of consumption become the complex structure of society,and made the simple consumption become the ordered code for identity.The waves of modern consumption caused a lack of belonging,panic of social status and aspiration of self-realization,which made the reconstruction of a new self-identity more prominent.Although the protagonists acquired the social feedback and recognition through the sense of community of space consumption and the recognition degree of brand consumption,and thus they racked their brains to look for their positions to identify their status in every aspect of society,yet such reconstruction of selfidentity is materialized in a passive,obscure and unconscious way,and hard to be confirmed in a real way and need to be reexamined and reconstructed.Only based on the rational consumption and self-identity reconstruction,can the protagonists acquire the happiness they crave and the freedom they long for,can they deal well with the relations among people and material consumption,people and the society,people and spirit,and can they have a better understanding of self-value and life.
