探索中文新闻纸的路子:北华捷报馆下的《上海新报》  

Exploring the Way of Chinese Newspaper: The Chinese Shipping List & Advertiser under theNorth-China Herald Office

摘　　要：《上海新报》是北华捷报馆所诞生的第一份中文商业报纸,这份报纸与北华捷报馆的关联仍是一个有待填补的研究空白。论文利用《北华捷报》、《字林西报》、《字林西报行名录》等西报材料,试图理清《上海新报》与北华捷报馆的关联,以探讨这份报纸在中西之间的特点与局限。研究发现,北华捷报馆的经营与编辑业务相分离,报馆统揽《上海新报》的定价发行等经营业务,西人主编在报馆主管之下独立编辑报纸。因而,《上海新报》从翻译内容、新闻观念和言论立场上都有较深的西报印记。在借鉴移植西报理念和西式新闻纸的本土化探索之间存在的张力和限制也影响了其进一步的发展与存续。The Chinese Shipping List &Advertiser is the first Chinese newspaper issued by the North-China HeraldOffice. The relationship between them,however,is still unsettled. This study utilizes The North-ChinaHerald,The North-China Daily News,The North China Desk Hong List and other publications toclarify this relationship. It finds that the North-China Herald Office set management apart from editorialwork and took charge of the former. Chinese and English editors worked independently,cooperativelyand shared resources. Therefore, the newspaper resembled English newspapers in translation,journalistic ideas and standpoint. The tension between westernization and localization limited its furtherdevelopment and survival.
