摘 要:英国女作家莫蒂母的一部儿童福音故事集《将明篇》,“行旅”到近代中国后先后由6位来华传教士翻译成9种不同版本,其中尤以宾为霖之《正道启蒙》最受欢迎。然而,译本在目标读者、文体、语言和内容等多方面却发生了变异。这既是原作内容和译者翻译动机驱使的必然结果,亦与近代中国小说的文体特征和文学场密切相关。此外,为实现与中国民众的“视界融合”,《正道启蒙》的基督教呈现明显的本色化特征。因此,《正道启蒙》是跨文体跨文化跨宗教对话的一部范本。The Peep of Day, a collection of Gospel stories for children by Favell L. Mortimer, has been translated in modern times into nine different Chinese versions by six China-based missionaries. Among these versions, William C. Burns’ s has received an especially wide circulation. Burns’ s translation is noted for its adaptation of the source text’s original readership, style, language and content to local conditions of the target culture, including the stylistic norms and other features of the literary field then taking shape in China. To induce a "fusion of horizons" among his target readers, he even underwent to add many localized details to his Chinese version. As such, Burns’ s translation becomes in effect a site for cross-stylistic, crosscultural and cross-religious dialogues.
