摘　　要：英语集体名词具有内部复数和外部单数双重数概念,来自于其所指集合性事物双重完形和双重数量特征的双重概念化。集体名词的句法表征是对集体名词内部复数和外部单数概念的选择性表征,即复数限定词和复数谓语动词是内部复数概念的句法表征,单数限定词和单数谓语动词是外部单数概念的句法表征。据此,英语中的集体名词数形式和数意义存在象征关系,并无不统一。English collective nouns have the double number concepts of internal plural and external singular,which come from the double conceptualization of the double Gestalt and double quantity characteristics of the collective things they refer to.The syntactic representation of collective nouns is the selective representation of the internal plural and external singular concepts of collective nouns,that is,the plural determiner and the plural predicate verb are the syntactic representation of the internal plural concepts,and the singular determiner and the singular predicate verb are the syntactic representation of the external singular concepts.Therefore,there is a symbolic relationship between the number form and the number meaning of collective nouns in English.
