摘 要:语法化是开放词类向封闭词类转换的过程,本文基于语料库技术,对suppose一词的语法化现象进行共时和历时分析,得出suppose存在实义动词转情态动词和实义动词转话语标记两条语法化路径。通过共时性分析,得出suppose的情态意义主要以认识情态和道义情态为主,而话语标记则多表示虚拟语气意义。基于以上发现,本文利用认知语言学的概念隐喻、转喻角度和注意力视窗理论,进一步对suppose语法化路径进行认知语言学的理据性阐释。Grammaticalization is a word’s transformation from that of open-category to closed.This paper employs corpus-based techniques to conduct synchronic and diachronic analyses of the word suppose,a semi-modal verb and its grammaticalization,and finds that there are two approaches to achieving this,one being a content-verb converted into a modal verb,the other being a content-verb into a discourse marker.Results of synchronic analyses indicate that the former connotes epistemic modality and deontic modality,while the latter is usually used to express a subjunctive mood meaning.Then this paper turns to cognitive linguistics to interpret the word’s grammaticalization path in terms of conceptual metaphor and metonymy and the windowing of attention theory.
