摘　　要：This paper studies the struggle of two protagonists in Kate Chopin’s“the Story of an Hour”and“The Storm”from the perspective of Freud’s theory of personality structure.It attempts to explore how the two protagonists balance their id,ego and su⁃perego by analyzing their mental activities and physical behaviors.In the story,Mrs.Mallard died in the end because she didn’t make a good balance of her inner id and her superego,while Calixta found her ego in the end and went back to her family.It con⁃cludes that in a lasting and steady marriage,the couple should set strict demands on themselves and be responsible for his or her partner.
