[Objective] To compare the short-term outcomes of two rehabilitation exercise protocols for resection of symptomatic type Ⅱ accessory navicular bone in athletes. [Methods] From June 2017 to June 2020, 38 athletes underwent modified Kinder procedure for symptomatic type Ⅱ accessory navicular bone. After the operation, the patients were randomly divided into two groups. Of them, 19 patients in the compound group received Groud-Up ankle functional exercise combined with stretching work out, while the remaining 19 patients in the simple group used stretching exercises only. The short-term clinical outcomes were compared between the two groups. [Results] All patients were followed up for more than 6 months. At the last follow-up, the compound group was significantly superior to the simple group in term of VAS, AOFAS and Maryland scores, as well as electromyogram(EMG) motor unit parameters(MUPs), single foot long jump symmetrical index(SI), single foot heel raise SI and 3 000 m running SI(P<0.05). [Conclusion] Appling the compound rehabilitation exercises after resection of symptomatic type Ⅱ accessory navicular bone does significantly improve functional recovery and sports performance in athletes.
