摘　　要：五四前后的中国社会在各个方面都发生着剧烈的变化,美国新闻媒体也关注到了这些变化,并进行了报道和分析。美国媒体有关中国的报道,反映了中国在历史转折时期教育与文化的变迁,以及可能对中国未来所发生的影响。美国媒体关注了西方思想家的影响、留学生群体对中国进步的推动以及美国对中国的认识和态度。在政治上,中国处于一个极不稳定的时期,但是也可能就是这个政治的不稳定,中央政府的衰弱,给中国知识分子登上历史舞台、扮演主要角色创造了机会。Around the time of May 4th Movement,Chinese society underwent dramatic changes in all aspects,which were noted,reported and analyzed by US news media.The reports about China reflected the change on education and culture and the possible impact on China’s future in such historical transition period.US media paid attention to the Western thinkers’influence in China,the overseas Chinese students’promotion to China’s progress,and US’sunderstanding and attitude towards China.In such period,Chinese society was extremely unstable because of the unstable political situation.Perhaps,such political instability and the weak central government created an opportunity for Chinese intellectuals to appear on the stage and play a leading role.
