英语重音与音节重量的相互影响

摘　　要：音节重量对重音影响方面的研究已经取得了丰硕成果,但在二者互不匹配的问题上产生了不少分歧。本研究赞同两种观点:1)并非所有的重音节都有重音;2)轻音节通过音节双栖化可被激活为重音节,以满足重音指派的条件。本文借此转换视角,聚焦英语重音对音节重量的影响,认为重音是音节重量的占位者,具有决定性作用;音节重量是重音的承受者,具有辅助性作用。指派重音的重音节是真正的重音节,显示出平衡稳定的结构及其音系属性。缺失重音的重音节是潜在的重音节,表现出复杂多变的结构及其音系/语音混搭属性:有的弱化为■音节或成音节乃至整个音节脱落,有的隐含在底层,表层上虽为重音节,但处在趋短趋弱的连续体变化中。研究表明,英语重音与音节重量在音系层与语音层相互影响、相互依存,深层上形成一种清晰的理论框架。The research into the influence of syllable weight on stress has scored great successes,but usual debates have arisen from their mutual mismatches.This study endorses two claims:1)Not all heavy syllables bear stress;2)Light syllables can be activated into heavy ones by ambi-syllabicity to satisfy the condition of stress assignment.The present paper thereby focuses the other way around on the impact of English stress on syllable weight by arguing that stress works as the placeholder of syllable weight and plays a decisive role while syllable weight as the stress receiver plays the subsidiary role.It also argues that stressed syllables serve as real heavy ones to show the structure of balance and stability with its phonological property,whereas the unstressed heavy syllables behave as potential ones to reveal the structure of complexity and variety and their mixed phonological and phonetic properties.Some of them are reduced or even omitted,and others though heavy in surface emerge as a continuum tending towards shortening and reduction.This study suggests that English stress and syllable weight interplay and interdepend at phonological and phonetic levels,shaping a clear theoretical framework in the underlying layer.
