摘　　要：为帮助科研人员在环境科学国际期刊论文写作和国际学术会议交流中准确地用英文表达其科研思想,从"污染物"对应的三个英文词汇释义、"环境污染物"对应的三个英文术语释义以及"污染物"在环境科学类英文国际期刊论文中实际应用的视角,对比研究了"环境污染物"对应的三个英文术语的内涵和外延意义,明确了环境科学中"污染物"的英文表达。结果表明:"environmental contaminant""environmental pollutant""environmental toxicant"三个英文术语在语义层面具有层层递进的关系,三者都是指一种人类向环境中添加的、偏离正常环境成分的、其浓度高于自然浓度且可能对环境有害的物质,但区别在于三者常用于指代不同领域的、对环境影响程度各异的"污染物"。该研究结果可为环境科学领域的研究人员准确地用英文表达其科研思想具有参考意义。This paper explores and comparatively studies the meanings of the three technical terms of waste substance,i.e."environmental contaminant","environmental pollutant"and"environmental toxicant",based on English dictionaries and English international journal papers of environmental science.The results show that these three terms show a progressive relationship in connotation and denotation.All the three refer to the substances added by humans to the environment that deviates from the normal environmental composition and whose concentration is higher than the natural concentration.However,they are often used in different fields referring to different waste substances whose impacts on the environment vary greatly even at the same concentration.The paper has reference for researchers in the field of environmental science to express their ideas accurately in English.
