摘　　要：文章着重讨论了亚历山大·冯·洪堡在《新西班牙王国政治随笔》中各种统计图表的观感和作用,重点关注了这些图表与叙事之间千丝万缕的关系。图表在洪堡的叙事中开辟了一个独特的空间,图文分离的特点不但能激发出读者的新思路,而且会催生出新思想,这样的阅读体验颇像一次曲径通幽的冒险。This article focuses on the visual qualities of Alexander von Humboldt’s statistical tables in his Political Essay on the Kingdom of New Spain,with special focus on how they relate to narrative writing.I argue that Humboldt’s tables open up spaces inside his narration which fragment the reader’s visual field in order to invite unexpected conversations,connections,and ideas—what I call off-road adventures.
